Standard Nymphs for Fly Fishing
Here you’ll find proven nymph patterns used by fly anglers around the world. Trout and grayling take much of their food below the surface, so a pattern that imitates an aquatic insect larva is a good starting point. We offer nymph patterns weighted with lead wire alone, brass beads, or heavier tungsten beads. Choose a weight that suits the depth and current of the stretch you’re fishing.
Start by looking at what the trout and grayling are feeding on. A large, heavy stonefly nymph might be the best choice one day. The next day, trout may be taking insects small enough to call for a size 16 or 18 nymph.
