Es ist ein Schauspiel von besonderem Reiz, Schlupf und Hochzeitsflug der schönen Danica zu erleben. Die Reaktion der Fische auf dieses Ereignis ist spektakulär. Es ist die Zeit, in der auch kapitale Fische trocken zu fangen sind. Mit dem richtigen Muster! Denn bei dem riesigen Angebot natürlicher Maifliegen, stellen sich die Fische oft auf bestimmte Stadien ein und bei der Musterwahl kommt es auf Feinheiten an. Fast immer geben die Fische Auskriechern und Duns den Vorzug vor den eiablegenden Weibchen und deren Spents, die oft in riesigen Mengen - völlig unbeachtet - in Hinterwassern oder im Stau vor Wehren zusammengestrudelt werden. Deshalb habe ich meine beiden Danica-Muster auf Auskriecher und Dun beschränkt. Unter kräftigem Schlagen ihres Abdomens steigen die schlupfreifen Nymphen an die Wasseroberfläche, durchbrechen die Oberflächenspannung und kriechen unverzüglich aus der Nymphenhaut. Das Auskriechen und Entfalten der Flügel dauert durchweg nur Sekunden. Doch diese kurze Zeitspanne totaler Hilflosigkeit gibt den Fischen Gelegenheit, sich ohne große Mühe zu bedienen. Der CDC-Mayfly-Emerger ahmt dieses attraktive Stadium glaubhaft nach: Die Loop-Wing-Montage imitiert die sich entfaltenden Flügel, während das Abdomen der Fliege durch die bewußt kürzer gehaltenen Cerci etewas tiefer im Film liegt. Das Muster wird an langer Vorfachspitze ruhig und oh ne zu dreggen im Film gefischt.
